Getting High with High Concept

I’m beginning to think high concept is Hollywood’s equivalent of a caffeine rush. You grab that sweet, short idea and swig it back. Seconds later, you’re on one hell of a ride. You see magnificent colours. The world is an amazing place. You’re the funniest person on the planet. And it lasts about 20 minutes.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m as easily seduced by a high concept idea as the next person. That’s why it works. This is the domain of marketers – the people who just need to get you in the door. Then their job is done. If the movie doesn’t work, that ain’t their problem. They got you to go.
